Transformation Equation

I feel like I am in a constant state of transformation, personally and professionally at the Mid-Missouri accounting firm I work at.  I love it and would not have it any other way!  One of my favorite times of the year is when I get to travel to our Central Missouri accounting firm's bi-annual Business Transformation Circle with Boomer Consulting, Inc.

At our meeting last week, we heard Tom Hood, CEO of Maryland Society of CPAs, speak about change and transformation.  He enlightened us with an equation about transformation.

D  X  V  X  F  >  R

D = Dissatisfaction with Status Quo
V = Vision for the future
F = First steps
R = Resistance

In order for transformation to happen, you must be dissatisfied with the status quo, you must have a vision for what you want the future to be, and you must be taking steps toward that future.  These three variables together must be greater than the resistance, either within or outside yourself or business.

I won’t forget Tom’s comment after presenting the equation.  He said, if any one of the variables on the left is zero, then there is no transformation.

What are we doing at Wilson Toellner to keep the transformation equation balanced?

Dissatisfaction with Status Quo
We know that in order to stay relevant within our profession and provide value for our clients we need to transform our client experience and service offerings.

Vision for the future
Our future includes the integration of technology into all processes to create the capacity for us to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with our clients.  These relationships will allow us to better understand their business and become a more ingrained partner within their business operations to help them meet their goals.

First steps
We have taken many first steps in transformation to get where we are today, yet we have many first steps to take.  We are integrating cloud solutions with clients to make accounting more efficient and effective, which makes life more enjoyable.  We are in the process of creating new service lines to increase the value we bring to our client relationships.  Our client onboarding process has been mapped out and revamped to improve the client experience.  We have so many more first steps planned.

Resistance
Resistance comes from all different directions and in all kinds of ways.
Our equation is balanced and so we have been able to make great strides in transforming how we serve our clients.  With great effort, our Mid-MO CPA firm will keep our transformation equation in balance so we can continue to bring the best value to our clients.
